Directors
A board of volunteer directors drawn from the local community oversees the work of Community Futures Strathcona and directs policy. Current board members are: Shelly Boates (chair), Dennis Evans (vice chair), Jim Hooton (treasurer), Gary Rolston (secretary), Lawrence Lewis (director), Layne Marshal (director), Pat Allan (director) and Brenda Paul (director).
When the board recognizes the need to either add additional members to the board or to replace departing members, or following its annual review of current board make-up, the board in its entirety becomes a nominating committee and uses the following process to identify, select, invite and approve new board members:
The board as a whole agrees on the need to appoint at least one new board member and strikes a Nominating Committee, chaired by the Vice Chair of the board and comprising all current members of the board.
The Nominating Committee then
- reviews the desired qualifications of board members and explores any gaps between qualifications of continuing members and the desired board makeup.
- proposes one or more candidates for consideration, ranking them if there are more candidates that available appointments.
- assesses the proposed candidate(s) interest in joining the board and, if the there is interest, invites the top candidate(s) to complete a process involving an application and short orientation to Community Futures Strathcona and the board.
- recommends the candidate(s) for membership.
The board as a whole reviews and approves the new member as a formal action at a board meeting.
