Business Profile

Do I know any businesses that you've helped?

We can't list them all but there's a good chance that you're buying goods and receiving services from our clientele. Each quarter we profile one of our clients by sharing their story. Please read below to learn about the great people and great concepts that we get to be a part of each day.

In 2014 David and Andrea Brimacombe asked "what if we could open a business that produced premium vodka and gin right here in the Comox Valley?" Community Futures thought why not?

The couple reminded us of a quote by Thomas Watson Sr. "to be successful, you have to have your heart in your business, and your business in your heart?" And it suits this husband and wife team exceptionally well because they are enthusiasm defined when discussing the intricacies of creating premium vodka and gin and doing so with creativity and fun. The business really is an extension of themselves.

Of which, has caused the business to become the first Canadian company to use honey as the base for all its spirits that ultimately earned them awards at the 2015 BC Distilled event for British Columbia's #1 Vodka and #2 Gin. In the words of David Brimacombe "honey is a tempermental creature that needs gentle hands and a little bit of patience to be shaped into a complex spirit unlike anything else." This more or less means that the production process needs to be monitored by someone that truly believes in what they are doing and has pride in their work. Something that David and Andrea have plenty of and are truly artisan in their approach to meld flavours that satisfy any palate.

Wayward Distillation House is a unique business that is created through the time, energy and risk that entrepreneurs such as David and Andrea are willing to invest. These efforts ultimately strengthen the local economy by adding employment opportunities that would otherwise not be available. And it all started with what if?  Congratulations David and Andrea, our respect for entrepreneurs like yourselves is immense.

We suggest that you visit their website or stop by their shop for a complimentary 'taste and stay' tour to learn about the art of distilling. It is a wonderful business operated by wonderful people. Prepare to be impressed!
